1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an excellent conditioner that can make your hair soft, silky and shiny. It also helps remove built-up residue that makes your hair look dull and lifeless. In addition, it can help cure the problem of dandruff and itchy scalp.  Apple cider vinegar's acidity is close to that of natural hair, so it's a good conditioner and cleaning agent. To get silky and shiny hair you can use apple cider vinegar in two ways :

(i) According to your hair length, take equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water. After shampooing, pour the mixture into your hair and massage it onto your scalp. Let it stay for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water.

(ii) Alternatively, mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and the juice of one lemon in one cup of water. Use this mixture as a final hair rinse after shampooing. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and then wash off with normal water.

2. Eggs

Eggs are rich in vitamins A, D and E in addition to proteins, fatty acids and sulfur. All these nutrients make this an excellent ingredient in many hair products for solving various hair problems including, damaged, dull and frizzy hair. To get silky and shiny hair you can use egg in two ways :

(i) Take one egg white, one tablespoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of honey. Mix all the ingredients to get a smooth paste. After washing your hair, apply this paste on damp hair and scalp. Cover your head with a shower cap for about 30 minutes. Finally wash your hair with a mild shampoo and normal water.

(ii) A combination of eggs, almond oil and yogurt is also very beneficial in getting silky and shiny hair. Beat two eggs and mix with two tablespoons of almond oil and 4 tablespoons of yogurt. Mix them well to get a smooth paste. Apply this mixture on your hair and scalp. Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes and then shampoo your hair with normal water.

3. Honey

Honey is an excellent emollient that improves the health of the hair follicles which are responsible for hair growth. Honey deeply moisturize your scalp as well as hair and helps a lot in getting soft, shiny and silky hair.

(i) Take 2  tablespoons of honey and mix them in two cups of warm water. Put the mixture in a spray bottle. After shampooing, spray this solution on your hair. Slowly massage it onto your scalp for five minutes and leave it on for 15 minutes.  Finally rinse  off  with lukewarm water. For best results repeat this remedy one per week

(ii) Take 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt. Mix them well and apply to your clean and damp hair. After all the hair has been covered with this honey mixture,  put a plastic cap on your hair and wait for 30 minutes. Finally wash your hair with mild shampoo and water.

Note: People with dark hair should be careful while using honey as it may also lighten your hair color.

4. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil (organic and unrefined) is very famous and frequently used to solve many hair problems including, frequent hair fall, dull and damaged hair and premature graying of hair. Coconut oil is rich in carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, all of them  helps restore moisture to dry and damaged hair, in turn making them, soft,  shiny and healthy.

(i) Apply warm coconut oil on your hair, from the root to the ends. Massage for 5-10 minutes and then wrap your hair in a shower cap  for at least 30 minutes. Wash your hair  with water and mild shampoo.

(ii) Take a handful of curry leaves and mix with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Heat it until warm. When it becomes lukewarm then massage the oil gently onto the scalp and hair. Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes and then wash with a mild shampoo.

For best results you can use either of above remedy at least once per week.

5. Avocado

Avocado are very helpful in maintaining and promoting overall hair health. Avocados are high in vitamins B and E, which work at the cellular level to protect and strengthen hair. Avocado along with some other ingredients helps a lot in turning dry and damaged hair into soft and shiny hair.

(i) Take pulp of 1 ripe avocado and mix with two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil. Mix them well to make a smooth paste and apply this mixture on clean and damp hair, from the roots to the ends. Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Finally rinse off with normal water and wash your hair with regular mild shampoo and water.

(ii) A combination of ripe avocado and banana is also very helpful to get soft and shiny hair. Mash one ripe avocado and mix with pulp of one ripe banana . Mix them well and add half tablespoon of almond oil. Mix all the ingredients and massage this paste onto your scalp and spread it all over your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap for 30-40 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and then wash your hair with shampoo and water.

6. Aloe Vera

Antioxidant and moisturizing properties of aloe vera gel are very helpful for proper growth and nourishment of your hair. In addition, aloe vera gel also help to fight against dandruff and combat frizzy hair.

(i) Cut the aloe vera leaf from the stem upward. Use a spoon to remove all the gel. Apply it to clean and damp hair, starting at the scalp and working your way from roots to the tips. When you cover your all hair then wrap your hair in a warm and damp towel and wash off after 30 minutes.

(ii) Take 4 tablespoons of fresh aloe Vera gel, 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of honey. Mix them well to make a smooth paste and apply this on your hair in root to tip direction. This is a hydrating hair mask and if your hairs are dull and dry then this will nourish them deeply. Keep this mask for 20-30 minutes and then wash off using your regular shampoo.

(iii) Aloe vera gel along with some other nutrients also help to get soft and shiny hair. Take 4 tablespoons of fresh aloe vera gel, two tablespoons of coconut oil and three tablespoons of yogurt.  Mix them well and apply this paste on clean and damp hair and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Finally wash your hair with lukewarm water.

7. Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatment is highly beneficial for adding shine and restoring moisture to dry, damaged, and brittle hair. With hot oil treatments you will nourish your hair, promote healthy hair growth, avoid hair breakage, and prevent any further damage. For hot oil treatment you can also use coconut, castor or almond oil.
You can use the above- mentioned oils alone, or prepare your own mixture of different oils.
Heat 3-4 tablespoons of any of above oil in a saucepan over low heat, until it becomes warm, but not too hot. For better results, add a few drops of any essential oil (lavender, rosemary, lemon, chamomile, sage, or yarrow essential oil) to this warm oil. Essential oil will enhance the effects of the oil treatment and add more shine and moisture to your hair. Now massage this oil mixture into your dry hair and scalp.  Now cover your hair and scalp with a shower cap, and then wrap with a hot towel. The heat will open the pores, and allow the oil to deeply penetrate your hair and scalp.
Wait for 30-45 minutes  and finally wash your hair by using your regular shampoo and lukewarm water.

Note: You can adjust the oil quantities according to your hair length.

8. Green Tea

Green tea contains polyphenols, Vitamin E and Vitamin C, which are known to boost lustrous hair. In addition, it also helps in stimulating hair growth and softens hair.

(i) For dry and rough hair, use warm tea water without any sugar. Make sure that the water is not hot. Rinse your hair with this warm tea water for making hair silky and shiny. After half an hour wash your hair with regular shampoo.

(ii) According to your hair length, steep two green tea bags in one cup of hot water or boil 3-4 tablespoon of green tea leaves in one cup of water. Now add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of honey to the green tea water. Mix everything well and apply the mixture on scalp and hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes. Finally rinse off with lukewarm water and then wash your hair and scalp by using regular shampoo and water.

9. Banana

Banana is rich in potassium, carbohydrates, natural oils and many important vitamins which help in softening the hair and protects the natural elasticity of hair strands and prevent hair split ends and breakage. In addition, banana hair mask provides natural glow and nourishment to your dry, damaged and frizzy hair.

(i) Take fully ripe banana and peel it off, take 1/4 cup of olive oil and one egg white and put them all in a blender. Blend them well to make a smooth paste. Apply this banana mask to your from roots to tips.  Cover your hair with a shower cap and Let it stay on your hair for 20-30 minutes. Now rinse your hair and then wash your hair with regular mild shampoo.

(ii) Mash 1 ripe banana and add 1 tablespoon of yogurt into it. Blend it in a blender to get a smooth paste. Apply this all over the hair starting from the roots to tips. Now cover your hair with a shower cap and wait for 45 minutes. Finally rinse off and wash your hair with your regular shampoo.

(iii) For dry and damaged hair, take pulp of 1 fully ripe banana and mix with 1 teaspoon of almond oil.  Mix them well and apply on your hair for 20-30 minutes. Finally rinse off and wash with your regular shampoo. The vitamin A and C present in banana along with Vitamin E of the almond oil leave your hair silky and shiny. 

Note: You can increase the quantities according to your hair length.

10. Yogurt

Yogurt acts as natural deep conditioner and hence it helps make your hair soft, silky and shiny. The protein content in yogurt provides ample nourishment and strengthening to the hair without making it dull or dry. The zinc and lactic acid properties help stimulate blood circulation, which aids growth.

(i) Brush out your hair well with a wide-tooth comb. Spread some plain yogurt all over your hair.  Take an old hair tie and put your hair into a ponytail or bun. If you wish you can cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes. Finally rinse off with lukewarm water and wash your hair with regular mild shampoo.

(ii) If you have dull and damaged locks, try a paste by mixing 1 tablespoon of yogurt with one egg, one teaspoon of almond oil and one teaspoon of honey. Mix all the ingredients apply on your hair from roots to tip.  Cover your hair with a shower cap and wait for about 30 minutes. Finally wash by using normal water and shampoo.

For best results repeat any of above remedy at least once per week.
