Blackheads are tiny, dark bumps that appear on the skin due to oxidation of comedones. A comedone or comedo is formed when keratin (skin debris) and excess sebum (oils) accumulate in the opening of hair follicles (pores), it produces a bump called comedone or comedo. If the skin over the bump stays closed, then the bump is called a whitehead. When the skin over the bump opens, exposure to the air results in oxidation which makes it look black, thus it is called a blackhead. The blackheads are easy to spot on the skin because they are dark in color and easily reduce your skin beauty.
Blackheads mostly appear on your nose and cheeks but can also appear on the back, chest, arms and shoulders.  Some hormonal changes, stress, side effects of certain medicines, misuse of cosmetics, unclear skin, smoking, drinking and caffeine are some common causes that may lead to blackheads. 1. Baking Soda and Water


A little baking soda goes a long way for removal of blackheads. Take some baking soda and mix with enough water to make a thick paste. Now gently massage the blackheads affected area with this paste for 3-4 minutes and then rinse off. Finally pat dry your skin and apply a good moisturizer to prevent skin dryness. For best results you should repeat the same procedure 2-3 times per week.

2. Oatmeal, Yogurt and Lemon Juice


To get rid of blackheads take 1 tablespoon of oatmeal and mix with 1 tablespoon of yogurt and half teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply this paste on your blackheads and gently scrub for 3-4 minutes with help of your finger tips. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse off.

3. Oatmeal, Honey and Tomato Juice

Take 1 tablespoon of oatmeal, 1/2 teaspoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of tomato juice.  Mix them well to make a thick paste and scrub it on your affected skin. Wash it off after 10-15 minutes. For best results repeat this 2-3 times per week.

4. Milk and Honey

Milk is a natural skin cleansing agent.  Lactic acid in milk gently exfoliate your skin and Honey not only naturally moisturize your skin but also acts as adhesive to pull out anything clogging your pores. Take about 1 tablespoon of raw honey and mix with 1 teaspoon of milk. Heat it and when it becomes lukewarm then apply a thin layer over blackheads, and then gently but firmly pat a strip of dry and clean cotton onto it. Let dry for about 15 minutes and carefully peel the strip away. Rinse off with cold water and apply a good moisturizer.

5. Cinnamon and Honey

A combination of cinnamon and honey is an other excellent home remedy in getting rid of blackheads. Take 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder and mix with equal amount of honey. Apply a thin layer over the blackheads and then press a strip of clean cotton over it. Let it stay for 3-5 minutes before removing and rinsing your face.  Finally pat dry your skin and and apply a good moisturizer.

6. Cinnamon, Lemon Juice and Turmeric


Take one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Mix all the ingredients and apply this mixture on your blackheads affected areas and massage in circular motions for 3-5 minutes. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse off. Don't forget to apply a good moisturizer to prevent skin dryness.

7. Milk, Red Sandalwood and Turmeric

Take 1 tablespoon of milk and mix with 1/2 teaspoon of red sandalwood powder and 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply this paste on your blackheads affected areas and massage in circular motions. Let it stay for 15 minutes and then wash off followed by a good moisturizer.

8. Lemon and Salt Scrub

A scrub made from lemon juice and salt is highly effective in getting rid of blackheads. Take 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and mix with 1 teaspoon of salt. Apply this mixture on your blackheads and gently scrub for 3-5 minutes. Leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off and apply a good moisturizer.

Note: Lemon is acidic in nature if you have sensitive skin you can add some water to lemon and salt scrub to dilute the acidic effect.

9. Lemon and Sugar Scrub

Lemon and sugar is an other great scrub to remove blackheads. The sugar balances the acid in lemon, while the lemon juice lessens the roughness in sugar. Together, they create an excellent facial scrub that helps a lot in removing blackheads.
Take 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and mix with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Gently scrub this mixture on your blackheads affected areas for 3-5 minutes. Let it stay for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off.

10. Coriander leaves and Turmeric

Wash a handful of coriander leaves, crush them and take out their juice. You should have 1 teaspoon of coriander leaves juice. Now mix this juice with 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder and apply this paste to your blackheads affected area.  After 30 minutes wash off with lukewarm water and apply a good moisturizer.


11. Mint Leaves and Turmeric Powder

Take 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix with 2 tablespoons of mint leaves juice. Apply this paste on your affected areas. Massage in circular motions for 3-5 minutes. Leave there at least for 20 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water, followed by a good moisturizer.

12. Egg white Mask

If you have blackheads on your face and nose then application of egg white mask will be very beneficial in getting rid of blackheads. Take one egg white and dip your finger in the egg white and gently apply this to your face. Let it dry. Once more, apply another layer of egg white and let dry and generously apply on the areas where you have more blackheads. Wait for 15-20 minutes till the egg white dries up. Now take a clean towel and dip it into warm water, squeeze and cover your face. After 20-30 seconds gently rub your face with this towel to take off the egg white.

13. Almond and Fuller's Earth(multani mitti)

Take 4-5 almonds and grind them to make a fine powder. Now mix almond powder with 1 tablespoon of fuller's earth and add some rose water to make a thick but spreadable paste. Now apply this paste on affected areas. Let it dry or leave it for about at least 15 minutes. Now using fingers, rub gently on your face in circular motion.  if it is too dry, wet your fingers a little and scrub for about 4-5 minutes. Finally wash off with water, pat dry your skin and apply a good moisturizer.

14. Apple Cider Vinegar and Fuller's Earth

Add 1 tablespoon of fuller’s earth and mix with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to make a paste.  Apply on affected areas and leave for 20 minutes. Wet a clean cloth or towel in warm water and place it on your face for 20-30 seconds. Now rub with this wet cloth gently removing all the paste from your face. Now wash your face, pat dry your skin and apply a good moisturizer.

15. Green Tea

Green tea is also very beneficial in getting rid of blackheads. You can use green tea as a facial toner or as a gentle scrub. Both methods are highly beneficial in removal of blackheads.

(i)To use green tea as a facial toner,  take 2 teaspoons of green tea leaves and one cup of water. Bring the water to a boil. Add tea leaves to the hot water. Let it steep for about an hour. Then strain the tea and place the tea in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes.  Now wash your face with mild soap and water and then pat dry your skin. Now soak a clean cotton ball in the chilled green tea and squeeze out the excessive tea. Now dab this wet cotton ball on your blackheads. Leave the tea on your face for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse off.

(ii) To use green tea as a scrub, take one teaspoon of dry green tea leaves and mix with a little water to make a paste.  Now gently scrub the paste over the affected area for 3-4 minutes. This scrub not only deeply cleanse oily skin but also helps unclog pores. After 5-10 minutes, wash your face with lukewarm water.

Note: If you have dry skin, then don't forget to apply a good moisturizer after every scrub.
